eBee Africa is a pan-African e-mobility company with operations in the East African region, specializing in the selling and renting of e-bicycles and operating a fleet of last mile delivery riders. We aim to create sustainable jobs for women and youth, and reduce the carbon footprint in African cities. We are currently operating in Kenya and Uganda.

Role summary

The Field Support Technician  is responsible for providing technical support through inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electric bicycles and the safe transportation of the e-bikes, spare parts, tools, and personnel. The role ensures efficient field operations, timely service and goods delivery, and high standards of customer satisfaction.

Key responsibilities

  1. E-Bike Technical Support

    • Perform routine maintenance and servicing of electric bicycles.

    • Conduct diagnostics and troubleshooting of electrical and mechanical faults.

    • Repair and replace components including brakes, drivetrains, tires, controllers, displays, wiring, and accessories.

    • Carry out quality control checks and test rides after repairs.

    • Complete service records, job cards, and maintenance reports accurately.

    • Assembly of ebikes.

    • Support field service activities when required.

  2. Driving and logistics

    • Safe operation of the company vehicles in compliance with traffic regulations and company policies.

    • Transportation of company assets to and fro designated locations. 

    • Ensure timely delivery and pickup of customer and company assets.

    • Conduct regular vehicle inspections and report any defects and maintenance requirements.

    • Maintain accurate vehicle logs, fuel records, mileage reports, and delivery documentation.

    • Ensure vehicle cleanliness, roadworthiness, and proper security of transported items.

    • Be prepared to handle emergencies or breakdowns, such as changing a flat tire, jump-starting a vehicle, or calling for assistance when needed.

    • Support loading, unloading, and securing of e-bikes and equipment during transportation.

    • Adapt to changes in schedules, routes, or assignments as required.

  3. Customer service and communication

    • Interact professionally with customers during deliveries, collections, and field service activities.

    • Promptly communicate customers’ feedback to the relevant department.

    • Document and handover assets picked from the field.

    • Represent the company positively and uphold its values.

  4. Health, safety and Compliance

    1. Promote safe driving and workshop practices at all times.

    2. Report accidents, incidents, and near misses promptly.

5. General Responsibilities

    • Perform any other duties related to the role as assigned by the line manager, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and operational requirements.

Qualifications

  • A minimum certificate or diploma Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Automotive Engineering.

  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in a relevant field.

  • Minimum 2 years' experience in professional driving with at least a valid class C driver’s license with no major traffic violations.

  • Safe and defensive driving skills

  • Good communication and customer service skills.

  • Record-keeping and reporting skills.

  • Time management and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • High level of integrity, accountability, and reliability.

  • Ability to use workshop tools and diagnostic equipment; and Google maps.

  • Flexible in handling changing schedules which involves working on weekends, routes, and repair needs.
