Role Title: Accountant
Report To: Finance Manager
Drive eBee's financial operations by ensuring accurate reporting, regulatory compliance, and strong internal controls. Working closely with the Finance Consultant, you will oversee day-to-day accounting, provide financial insights to support business decisions, optimize financial processes, and mentor the Junior Accountant to strengthen team performance.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Reporting & Accounting
- Oversee and maintain accurate financial records, ensuring completeness and integrity of financial transactions.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
- Lead month-end and year-end close processes, including reconciliations, accruals, and journal entries.
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation of management accounts and financial performance insights.
- Monitor general ledger integrity and resolve accounting discrepancies.
2. Accounts Payable & Receivable Management
Oversee supplier payments and customer invoicing processes to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
Monitor receivables, collections, and aging reports to optimize cash recovery.
Review reconciliations for accounts payable and receivable and ensure outstanding issues are resolved promptly.
Strengthen controls around payment approvals and revenue recognition.
3. Treasury, Cash Flow & Working Capital Management
Monitor daily cash flow and liquidity requirements to support operational continuity.
Lead bank reconciliations and oversee cash management processes.
Prepare cash flow forecasts and recommend strategies for efficient working capital management.
Support leadership in managing financial risks and optimizing cash utilization.
4. Tax Compliance & Regulatory Reporting
Ensure timely preparation and filing of statutory obligations, including VAT, PAYE, NSSF, SHIF, Housing Levy, NITA and corporate taxes.
Ensure compliance with local financial regulations and tax laws.
Liaise with auditors, tax consultants, and regulatory authorities where necessary.
Provide recommendations on tax efficiency and risk mitigation.
5. Payroll Oversight
Oversee payroll processing to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely salary disbursement.
Review payroll reconciliations and statutory deductions.
Ensure payroll controls and confidentiality standards are maintained.
6. Internal Controls, Audit & Risk Management
Strengthen and monitor internal financial controls to safeguard company assets.
Coordinate internal and external audit processes and ensure timely resolution of audit findings.
Identify financial risks, process gaps, and inefficiencies, and implement corrective measures.
Drive continuous improvement of accounting systems and financial processes.
7. Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Planning
Lead budget preparation and periodic re-forecasting processes.
Monitor financial performance against budgets and provide variance analysis with actionable insights.
Support business planning, investment analysis, and strategic decision-making through financial modeling and analysis.
Provide cost optimization recommendations to improve profitability and operational efficiency.
8. Expense & Cost Management
Review operational expenditures to ensure compliance with budgets and approval processes.
Partner with department heads to improve cost efficiency and resource allocation.
Identify and recommend cost-saving initiatives without compromising operational performance.
9. Team Leadership & Supervision
Supervise, mentor, and support the Junior Accountant in day-to-day finance activities.
Review reconciliations, journals, schedules, and reports prepared by the Junior Accountant.
Allocate responsibilities and monitor timely execution of finance deliverables.
Provide coaching, feedback, and capability development to strengthen team performance.
Ensure adherence to finance policies, internal controls, and reporting standards.
10. Cross-functional Collaboration & Business Support
Partner with operational and commercial teams to provide financial insights for decision-making.
Support leadership with financial analysis, scenario planning, and business performance reviews.
Contribute to the development and implementation of finance policies and operational processes.
11. Grant Accounting
Demonstrated experience in accounting for donor-funded projects and grants
Knowledge of grant budgeting, expenditure tracking, and budget variance analysis.
Ability to ensure grant funds are utilized in accordance with donor agreements, budgets, and applicable regulations.
Experience preparing financial reports for donors, management, and other stakeholders.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related business field.
CPA Part II completed as a minimum requirement.
Minimum of 2 years' relevant experience in a busy accounting or finance environment, with responsibility for financial reporting, reconciliations, taxation, and month-end close.
Experience in grant accounting and donor-funded projects will be an added advantage.
Experience using ERP/accounting systems such as Odoo, Quickbooks, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics 365, or similar accounting software.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with keen attention to detail.
High level of integrity, professionalism, and ability to handle confidential financial information
